Anton Porsteinsson, MD
Site PI

Anton P. Porsteinsson, MD is Director of the University of Rochester Alzheimer’s Disease Care, Research and Education Program (AD-CARE). He is the William B. and Sheila Konar Professor of Psychiatry, Neurology, Neuroscience, and Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Dr. Porsteinsson has devoted his career to the care and study of individuals with memory disorders. He has research interests in biomarkers, imaging, and novel agents in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, both in terms of cognitive loss and behavioral disturbances. He is a leading investigator for several prominent national and international Alzheimer’s disease prevention and treatment trials. Dr. Porsteinsson is the author and collaborator of hundreds of research publications and serves as site principal investigator for multiple research grants from the National Institutes of Health and other leading funders.

Emily Clark, DO
Site Co-PI

Emily Clark, DO is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Rochester. She is a board-certified Geriatric Psychiatrist with clinical and research experience in Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias. Emily currently serves as the Director of the Memory Care Program Biologics Treatment Center, Medical Director of the Finger Lakes Center of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease, and Associate Medical Director for the Memory Care Program. Emily also serves as the Associate Director for the Alzheimer’s Disease Care, Research, and Education Program (AD-CARE) and Co-Principal Site Investigator for the Alzheimer’s Disease Clinical Trials Consortium (ACTC), conducting a number of federally funded and industry-funded clinical trials in Alzheimer’s disease as Co-PI. Dr. Clark’s primary academic interests include early biomarker identification of Alzheimer’s disease, experimental therapeutics in Alzheimer’s disease, and treatment of neuropsychiatric symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

Susan Salem-Spencer
Site Liaison

Susan Salem-Spencer RN, MSN, CCRC is the Clinical Operations Manager and Senior Study Coordinator at the Alzheimer’s Disease Care, Research and Education Program (AD-CARE) at the University of Rochester. She received her BSN from Syracuse University in 1988 and her MSN from George Mason University in 1991. Prior to joining the University of Rochester, Susan worked as an Advanced Practice Nurse in acute and outpatient psychiatry. She was also an adjunct nursing instructor at a local Community College. Susan has been involved in Alzheimer’s Disease Research since 1997 and joined AD-CARE in 2001. Her role involves supporting, facilitating, and coordinating all of the daily clinical trial activities.
